friend jim is away this week, so we are happy to welcome back jordan lieberman. good to see you again. so let's talk about it. the day is here. peter, i'll start with you. what's the feeling going into this debate? >> i think there's a lot of anxiety, allison. these things are very tense. i'm not sure we're going to see lincoln/douglas here tonight. this is a fairly loose format and it allows both candidates some time to go into longer answers and explain things. but as you point out, especially with president obama, i think they're trying to shorten his answers, keep them pointed and i think that they're ready for a pretty tough onslaught from romney. romney knows he has to prove something, and he's going to come at the president, i think fairly hard. but i think this president gives as good as he gets. i think it will be a strong back and forth. >> jordan, what do you think? >> i think peter and i can agree mitt romney is probably losing. that means barack obama has everything to lose tonight if he doesn't do perfectly well. he's not the best debater out there. it's mostly his inspirati

was obviously the winner. i mean, he basically broke twitter. but the big loser in my opinion was definitely jim lehrer, though. i felt bad for the guy. i really sympathized with him. >> what about you? >> what stuck out for me was the line of attack that obama decided to take against mitt romney. he didn't mention the 47% comments that he should have mentioned, didn't mention romney's job record in massachusetts when they started talking about jobs, didn't mention bain capital once. obama was on the defensive much more than he was on the offensive, didn't dispute mitt romney's $716 medicare claim which has some truth, accuracy debate to it. he had a full opportunity to do that and didn't do it. >> i myself was amazed last night. personally i went to the debate thinking, okay, i think mitt romney is going to do okay, but he seriously started to look at the camera when he did his personal narrative at the very beginning of the debate, i was, like, okay, i think he's got this. to me it looked like obama did not want to be there. he looked tired. he didn't look himself. >> i think a lot of people a

's two contenders for jim web's soon to be empty seat will be back in the spotlight today. democratic tim kaine and republican george allen will debate in richmond. this comes as a new poll of likely voters shows kaine pulling ahead. now 52% of voters picked kaine, 45% back allen. >>> developing this morning, the number of rare meningitis cases linked to a tainted steroid treatment has risen to 91, spanning nine states and killing seven. another case was reported in maryland this weekend, bringing the total there to three. 18 cases have been reported in virginia with one death in each state. the massachusetts pharmacy linked to the outbreak has issued a voluntary recall of all of its products. officials say anyone who received the steroid injection between july and september is at risk for developing the fungal meningitis. >>> a controversial ad that sparked concern in new york and d.c. is going up in several metro stations today. >> the federal judge made the ruling over the weekend. melanie alnwick is live at the u street station in northwest with details. the ads will be going up where
